Miss Clark, Mrs Sammons and Mrs Walden are excited to be learning with you this year.
- Our School Day
Please arrive at school for 8.30am, when we will begin our morning activities. You will need to bring a water bottle each day as well as appropriate clothing for the weather. (If it’s hot, make sure you have a hat, if it’s not then bring a coat.) Please make sure that all personal items are clearly labelled.
What our week looks like
School finishes at 3.15pm Monday – Thursday, and at 1pm Friday.
We are a healthy school and promote healthy snacks. There will be fruit and vegetables available, or you are welcome to bring your own alternative healthy snack. No nuts please!
Our PE days this term are Monday and Tuesday. Please arrive in school in your PE kit on these days. PE kits includes: plain black shorts/joggers, a plain white top/Gagle Brook PE top, black trainers, a plain black jumper.
Our Learning this term
This term our big question is ‘Where will your future take you?’ and we will be hosting a virtual careers day at the start of the term. We will also learn about the UK and another non-EU country. October 2021 marks Black History Month and the final week of this term will focus on Black History through our topic learning and our English learning. In PHSE we use the Jigsaw scheme and our Jigsaw piece this year is Jigsaw Jack and we also have Jerrie Cat who helps us with our ‘paws for thought’ moments.
We use the Read Write Inc Phonics and Spelling programs and the children are familiar with Fred Frog, who helps us to read words. We place a high value on children’s reading and enjoyment of reading. Within our class we have daily ‘Drop it and read’ sessions where children are able to enjoy a wide variety of high-quality texts as a class. Our English curriculum is driven by high quality texts, both for writing and reading. We use a three-phase approach in which contextual knowledge is acquired by pupils through access to a variety of linked texts, and writing is driven by a core text each term. Our classroom is split into different area and when children are not working with an adult, they are able to explore a wide range of carefully designed independent activities that strengthen their understanding of our subjects. These activities range across our curriculum and allow children to take a hands-on exploratory approach to their learning.
