Just like learning to swim, starting early is the best way for your child to develop essential reading skills throughout life.
After a long period of remote and blended learning, making sure our children are developing strong reading habits remains as important as ever.
This National Read a Book Day, we’d like to encourage every child to start off the school year by getting lost in a story, whether with their parents, or on their own.
Research has shown that even 10 minutes a day of reading and sharing stories with children can have a hugely positive impact on their development, both now and in the future!
As a member of The White Horse Federation, this year we’ve launched an initiative where pupils read with teachers at least 30 minutes every day of the week. This is something we’d love to see you trying at home as well! We already know that we have an amazingly enthusiastic parent community after our school book drive last year!
If you spend just some of the quality time you have with your children reading, you are already giving them a headstart in life. Developing a lifelong love of reading is also invaluable to leading a life full of imagination and inspiration.
If you would like some support getting books for your children, please don’t hesitate to talk to your child’s teacher and we’ll let you know where to go.
