Local Community Donates 25 Shimmy Tablets to Gagle Brook School

Everyone at Gagle Brook is delighted to have received a collection of tablets from the local community at a recent event.

We were donated 25 ‘shimmy’ tablets by members of the eco-community at the ‘meet your community’ evening, which took place at Elmbrook’s Eco Business Centre.

The handover of the tablets was a highlight of the event hosted by A2Dominion, during which residents and guests learned more about the benefits of living in the award-winning eco-town. We are very grateful for the resourceful donation and for everyone involved in organising the event.

Back in 2015, Elmsbrook residents were given tablets that were used as home information systems to provide real-time energy usage and cost information, as well as local bus travel times. Recently, the tablets were replaced with a state-of-the-art smartphone app. Instead of throwing the tablets away, residents kindly donated the tablets to our school.

The tablets will be repurposed for use to enhance our pupils’ learning across the curriculum. They are a valuable addition to our sustainability-based education programme, and it is fantastic that they have been sourced in such an enterprising and resourceful way.

Elmsbrook is one of only eleven settlements around the world to have been awarded One Planet Living status for its unprecedented standard of eco-efficiency and sustainable living. We are very proud to be part of this truly groundbreaking community.
