The 5th of February 2024 marks the beginning of Children’s Mental Health Week. We are taking this opportunity to encourage children to start conversations about mental health and the factors that can affect it.

At Gagle Brook Primary School, we want every pupil to feel comfortable to speak about their mental health, no matter how big or how small the issue, and to help end the negative stigma that can surround the topic.

This year’s theme is “My Voice Matters”. Our pupils will be taking part in various activities which highlight this theme throughout the week. We have used the book by Charlie Mackesy, The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse to explore the themes of kindness and courage. The children have looked at the impact of positive words on our ability to keeping going even when things are hard.

We take care to support all our pupils with any mental health issues they might have and encourage them to seek help when they need it. You can find plenty of resources for parents and carers here should you wish to continue the conversation about mental health at home: https://www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/families/
